Using Promotion.aspx

A Promotion (a.k.a. campaign) is used to define the terms and conditions for raising Payable events.  Every Click event (i.e. visit start) requires a PromotionId.

If you have affiliates that either drive traffic to your websites or that directly post leads to you then you will eventually create multiple promotions.  On the other hand if you are generating leads for yourself you may choose to set up a single Promotion to keep things simple.

Configuration Item Description
Name A unique promotion name up to 255 characters.
Promotion ID A unique promotion ID up to 36 characters.  The ID can be anything but if left blank then the system will find the next available "number", e.g. "1002" will follow "1001".
Payout Type

-none- -It is perfectly valid to issue no payouts however then no Payable event will occur and no "pixels" can fire.  Consider using a different Payout Type with a payout amount of zero if you wish to track conversions from the inbound perspective.

pay X per accepted form submission to ping tree PT - "Pay Per Accept" - Amount X will be paid when a form submission results in an Accept up to one time per Click.  This is a form of a Cost Per Action (CPA) type of payout.

pay X per click - "Pay Per Click" - Amount X will be paid for every Click.  This is also known as Cost Per Click (CPC).

pay X per form submission to ping tree PT - "Pay Per Submit" - Amount X will be paid per Submit up to one time per Click.  This is a form of a Cost Per Action (CPA) type of payout.

pay X when at least Y revenue is booked against the click - Pay On Bucket Tip a.k.a. Bucket Logic - Very powerful! Amount X will be paid if throughout the life of the Click at least Y revenue was generated.  X is often greater than Y because the agreement you make with your affiliates is that you get to keep ALL OF THE TRAFFIC AND LEADS (even those leads that are submitted and marked as DECLINE) and you get to monetize them as you see fit however you are only going to issue a payout if the Y threshold is met.  This is very powerful to use with your websites that present multiple offers and generate several multiple kinds of leads, use co-registrations, e.g.  This is a form of a Cost Per Action (CPA) type of payout but the affiliate needs to understand that 100% of the traffic and leads sent your way are yours to monetize as you see fit.  They should just measure earnings per click or post from their point of view to determine whether the deal is a win for them.  In order for your affiliates to be happy you may have to set X greater than Y so that the average works out for them.  If you do then you will need to watch performance more closely as this creates the risk of a loss.

pay X% of the revenue booked real-time from ping tree PT - Pay On Revenue Share a.k.a. Rev Share - This is a common payout type for when you have affiliates directly posting leads to you.  This is also known as Cost Per Sale (CPS).

Payout Amount/Percentage (X) This is the Decimal number that goes with the "X" in the selected Payout Type.  NOTE: To enter 80% use "0.80"; the number entered must be between 0 and 1 for a Rev Share promotion.
Minimum Revenue for Payout (Y) This is the revenue threshold for issuing a payout for Payout Type "pay X when at least Y revenue is booked against the click".  In order for your affiliates to be happy you may have to set Y less than X so that the average works out for them.  If you do then you will need to watch performance more closely as this creates the risk of a loss.
Payout Type Ping Tree You must select a Ping Tree for a Payout Type rule that involves a single Ping Tree.
Payout Pixel Most leadgen professional use "pixels" for the affiliate side of conversion tracking. The name "pixel" is historical because in the early days of the World Wide Web a 1 pixel by 1 pixel image was loaded on the confirmation page to communicate the conversion. Nowadays cookies, Javascript, IFRAMEs, etc. are used as well but the name "pixel" has stuck to mean the HTML and/or Javascript that you place on a conversion page to communicate a conversion back to your affiliate (or your affiliate management system).

Anything goes here.  Use the Expression Builder available from the nearby button to make Token Substitution easy.
Daily Limit Time Zone The selected time zone will be used if a Click limit is set.
Daily Limit for Clicks You can limit the number of Clicks per day that you will allow for this promotion.  Leave blank for unlimited.
Landing Page Url Set If you wish to use our Click Thru service for this promotion to start a Click and then redirect the visitor to a landing page then you will need to first define one or more landing pages via the URL Set configuration page and then select it here.
Suppress Payout in Response If this is checked, XML responses will not include the payout amount. They will still contain the payout ID.
Track Redirects If this is checked, redirect URLs will be wrapped with a TSL Ping Tree URL to force redirects through the system so that they will be tracked. This is checked by default. If you uncheck it, no redirect tracking can be performed.
Enabled When not enabled all Click and Submit attempts for this promotion will fail with a "Promotion is paused or discontinued" error message.
Notes Anything goes here.
Filters

A promotion may have any number of Filters of type Promotion attached to it.  These filters do not prevent a Click from starting but they will cause a Submit to fail before even attempting to run a Ping Tree.

Ping Trees

By default all combinations of Promotion ID and Ping Tree ID are valid on a Submit.  If you wish to restrict a promotion so that it can only run certain Ping Trees then select one or more Ping Trees here.
